Autodesk Robot is a renowned software for structural analysis, widely utilized in the engineering and construction sectors. The software stands out for several reasons:

Comprehensive Analytical Tools

Autodesk Robot boasts extensive analytical features, encompassing finite element analysis, nonlinear analysis, seismic analysis, among others. These tools enable engineers to examine a broad spectrum of structural systems and loading conditions effectively.

User-Friendly Interface

The software’s intuitive interface ensures that even complex analyses can be set up and executed with relative ease, making it accessible for both novice and experienced engineers.

Integration with BIM

Building Information Modeling (BIM) integration is seamless, facilitating smooth data and model transfers within the Autodesk ecosystem, thus enhancing workflow efficiency.

Extensive Material and Code Libraries

Autodesk Robot includes comprehensive libraries of structural materials, building codes, and design standards, which streamline the analysis process by providing readily available resources for engineers.

Customization Options

The software offers extensive customization options for analysis parameters, reports, and outputs, allowing engineers to tailor the tool to their specific project needs.

Overall, Autodesk Robot is a highly reliable structural analysis solution preferred by structural engineers globally. Its advanced analytical capabilities, user-friendly interface, and seamless BIM integration make it a favored choice for diverse structural analysis tasks.

Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis (ARSA) is a highly regarded structural analysis software with several considerations to keep in mind:

  • It may not be as user-friendly as alternatives like ETABS or STAAD Pro.
  • Familiarize yourself with the various loading options available in ARSA, including unique features like applying edge line loads on slabs.
  • Options to release slab or wall edges to achieve a precast structural effect are available.
  • Understand the meshing and shell options within the software.
  • Be aware of the warnings and errors that can arise during analysis to save time.
  • While detailed design outputs are provided, sorting the results may require additional effort.

In conclusion, Autodesk Robot offers a robust structural analysis package. However, a solid grasp of structural analysis basics is crucial for effective use and accurate result interpretation.

Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis Professional has established itself as a premier tool for the design, simulation, and analysis of structures worldwide, being the go-to choice in countries like the USA, UK, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Australia, UAE, Peru, and more.

Finite Element Analysis

The advent of finite element analysis in structural engineering brought significant advantages for complex structural analysis. Compared to traditional methods involving manual calculations, finite element analysis is faster and more precise, making Autodesk Robot an indispensable tool for modern engineers.

Advanced Structural Capabilities

Autodesk Robot excels in various areas, including the calculation of steel connections, wood structures, shear and bending moment diagrams, slab analysis, torsion effect assessments, and punching analysis. Its intuitive graphical interface simplifies these complex analyses, making them more accessible to engineers.

Whether you are an experienced structural engineer or an architect looking to expand your expertise, Autodesk Robot offers a comprehensive suite of tools to meet diverse needs. Its user-friendly environment supports both detailed technical work and creative exploration, helping you maximize the potential of your projects.

Reliable Results and Calculation Capabilities

As a leading software developer, Autodesk equips Robot Structural Analysis Professional with state-of-the-art analysis and processing capabilities, ensuring reliable results for all your structural analysis needs.

It appears that a few years ago, Autodesk included Robot Structural Analysis in their AEC software package. This means that if you purchased the package for AutoCAD and Revit, you now have access to Robot without any additional cost.

With the rising costs of analysis and design software packages, I thought it was time to explore this option that we already have available. I’m curious if anyone else has been doing the same.

So far, I’ve found both positives and negatives:

Cons:

  • The user interface has numerous bugs, with many dialog options that either shouldn’t be there or should be disabled because the buttons don’t work.
  • The workflow is completely different from any other software I’ve used.
  • The “cladding” elements distribute loads by tributary area, which means that anything less than a full uniform pressure over the entire cladding won’t distribute loads to adjacent members properly.
  • The design outputs lack sufficient information to validate some calculations.
  • The manual is very sparse and doesn’t provide enough detail or explanations for backend analysis behaviors, with several components having no documentation at all.
  • There are no shortcuts; for example, to model a flat slab with shells, you need to model the main slab, cut out holes for drop panels, model drop panel slab areas, offset the drop panel slabs, mesh everything, and assign rigid links between low mesh nodes of the drop and high mesh nodes of the main slab.

Pros:

  • The analysis engine is very powerful, comparable to Etabs or SAP2000.
  • Includes a sub-program for section property analysis, similar to RisaSection.
  • Has a sub-program for designing and storing multiple concrete component calculations.
  • Features a templating function to create parametric elements and inject them into your model.
  • The link to Revit works smoothly as long as your analytical model is clean.

This commitment to excellence positions Autodesk Robot well ahead of its competitors, setting new standards in structural analysis. Its reliability and precision in data output make it not just a tool but a game-changer, revolutionizing structural design for engineers and architects. Its cutting-edge technology ensures meticulous accuracy, enabling the creation of safe, efficient, and innovative structures in an ever-evolving industry.

Interoperability and Dynamic Workflow

Autodesk Robot Structural is an essential BIM tool for both architectural design and construction. It integrates seamlessly with BIM software like Autodesk Revit and Navisworks, as well as design software like AutoCAD and AutoCAD Structural Detailing. This integration offers significant workflow advantages for our projects, customers, and colleagues.

If you’re already using Autodesk Advance Steel or Revit Structure, you can import the analytical model directly into Robot Structural and automatically obtain the Dead Load.

Additionally, complex elements like steel connections and rebar designs can be exported directly to Revit Structure, making the generation of detailed drawings more straightforward.

Automatic Calculation Functions

While not an exclusive feature, Autodesk Robot automatically calculates the structure’s dead load and reactions on supports, using only the sections and dimensions of each component as references. This eliminates the need to manually calculate the weight of the structure.

We believe that cracking and sharing softwares is something great and needed, but please never forget to support his creators. If you can afford the product PLEASE buy it =)
